What a difference a hinge makes!
Hollon Safe takes pride in our uniquely designed solid steel hinges, which are notably pricier, costing about five times more than the industry standard hinges our competitors use. Seems crazy right? Not do not think so. Instead it is our commitment to guaranteeing our customers decades of smooth, trouble-free safe usage.
Our gun safes, in particular, are equipped with “NO SAG HINGES,” necessitating a substantial amount of steel for production. In contrast, many safes on the market resort to using smaller, subpar hinges, often camouflaged with “hinge caps” to appear larger and more secure. To spot these, look for hinges that are adjustable and lack any visible welding on the front of the safe. A flawless finish often suggests epoxy binding, which isn’t as durable. Over time, these hinges are prone to sagging, resulting in a door that sticks and becomes challenging to maneuver, sometimes even requiring an upward handle lift for access. Still, they hold an advantage over internal hinges, which limit full door opening.
Moreover, some competitors opt for internal hinges. A close examination will reveal a concerning absence of fireproofing at their attachment points. This vulnerability often prompts statements like, “that’s why it’s only rated for 75 minutes instead of 90.” While this sounds reasonable, it doesn’t hold up in real fire conditions.
In essence, it’s essential to be aware of hinge quality when investing in a safe. Hollon Safe hinges stand out as among the best globally, a fact we’re proud of, ensuring our top-tier safes offer you uninterrupted service for years to come.
